Exploring LGBTQIA+ identity, allyship, and the realities of “progressive” education in an international school in Indonesia. Warna Pelangi (Rainbow Colours) is a documentary I created while working at Green School Bali, born from a deep commitment to visibility, advocacy, and honest conversations around LGBTQIA+ identities within school communities. Through interviews with students, teachers, and special guest musician and activist Kai Mata, this film explores what it means to be LGBTQIA+ in Indonesia—a country where queer identities are often marginalized—and what it takes to foster genuine inclusion in an international school setting. Despite Green School’s global reputation as a “progressive” institution, we faced complex challenges when trying to support LGBTQIA+ youth and staff. This documentary looks candidly at:

• The lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ community members in Bali.
• The tension between progressive values and local cultural, social, and political realities.
• The barriers international schools face when advocating for marginalized groups.
• What true allyship and safety should look like for queer students and educators.
